I spend a lot of time thinking about my dream kitchen but in a smallish rental apartment with a kitchen/diner/living room it’s all about making little, decorative changes to add personality without losing the security deposit. Fortunately in our flat we are allowed to add shelves and this pot hanger is a great way of adding storage space whilst incorporating the natural wood which has become somewhat of the theme for this kitchen – if we can’t get rid of the pale brown cabinets we will embrace them! Another issue we encountered is not having splash backs behind the sink of near the kettle which was starting to damage the paint on the wall. To counter this we have some strategically placed chopping boards including a ceramic Oliver Bonas serving board and a few wooden ones from Flying Tiger. I made an interchangeable steam proof ‘splash back’ by using pretty wrapping paper which I change seasonally to suit my mood/ current decor theme out of an old TK Maxx frame and some marbled paper from Oliver Bonas which also features in the bathroom update I did.
I really like the look of mixed metals alongside natural wood so we have added some copper utensils and measuring cups alongside the silvery pans and fittings and brass pinch pot and H&M lantern which adds a softer lighting option and makes the kitchen look super cosy in the colder months.
Do you have any tips for decorating a small space in a rental apartment? I’d love to hear your ideas!
