Autumn is here!

Close up bits

I love Autumn. The chill in the air, cosy evenings, big socks, changing leaves, hot coffee and halloween but mostly I love cooking comfort food. Today, to celebrate the first day of the new season, I visited the famous Borough market in Southwark.  Firstly, it’s very easy to find which saves my usual google map nightmare whenever I go anywhere new and you are hit with the fresh earthy smell of vegetables on your approach so you know you’re heading in the right direction. Following a coffee pit-stop,   I roamed around the market feeling a little overwhelmed by the different produce on offer. I could have easily spent for ever examining all of the unusual vegetables and speciality ingredients. However I did have a loose mission when setting off this morning. Matt (hubby) and I are trying to eat only organic free range foods especially meat (Gulp!££££!) and we really wanted to get a feel of how much, if any, we could save by making the effort to go to a market instead of the supermarket. I’m pleased to report the difference is substantial mostly because we can buy everything in perfect portion sizes as the veg is sold loose and ask for the cheaper cuts of meat without compromising on quality. (I went to the Ginger Pig for meat)
